Observations
Millions of dollars are spent by many people in order to find a means to slow down the appearance of aging. It is with this in mind, I question the manner of intelligence in those who strive to become President of the United States. This job is probably has the fastest aging process of just about any job known to man. It is a no-win job with the main asset being able to fly in Air Force One.
The men’s tour had the first 6 months in a normal manner, but then Tiger left the tour in order to recover from an injury. This had a great effect on tour revenues for the last 6 months. Vijay Singh took much of the last minute drama out of the Fed Ex Cup, by winning it early in the season.
The rapid changing economy made me happy that I don’t have to fool with operating a golf course anymore. Oil prices hit an all time high, which raised the cost of operating the machinery necessary for maintaining the golf course. Suddenly, and mysteriously, the prices dropped dramatically. I am beginning to be a skeptic. Maybe they can pull another rabbit out of their hats and do the same with the overall economy.
Winter and the wet weather will soon be upon us. The “Highlanders” at the Pines golf course in Millbrook will have it made. While the “Lowlanders” in the Montgomery area will be slopping around in the mud.
The Pines will be high and dry. It is one of the best all weather golf courses I have ever seen.
When the football season finally ends, you should pry yourself out of that chair in front ot the TV, wipe off your golf clubs and head for the Emergency Nine driving range. Have Jason check you out. Golf, as in all sports, requires a warm-up, so start with little short shots instead of getting a hernia with that driver.
I have just received my newspaper, stating that River Run Golf course has closed. It is in the hands of the bank right now. I don’t believe the bank is too thrilled on having a golf course that has not been making any money, especially on top of the flack they have been taking over housing deals.
Hopefully, they can resolve these problems and get back into business when the season arrives.
Obviously 2009 is going to be a new experience this country. Any changes can be expected. Since Roosevelt, Truman and Carter have been the only Presidents who were not golfers, in some form or another. Both of them were walkers, but not with a club in hand. Many of the Washington politicians were great supporters of the “3 Martini” lunches at the Congressional Club, but now we have an athletic basketball player as our next president. It is usually a case of “monkey see, monkey do,” in politics. I just cant see the majority of them going around bouncing a basketball. They will probably have to include the Congressional Club with their “Bail Out" program next year.
